Johanna Torres, M.S.
Licensed Professional Counselor
I work with adolescents and adults experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, and school or career difficulties. I also work with couple and marriage issues, like communication, infidelity and shift-work schedules common in the oil industry. I am an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and counsel individuals who identify within the broad spectrum of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.
The Power of Counseling
My research-based, solution focused approach means I can offer you a road-map for success by the end of the first session. I am goal-oriented so I can help you get scheduled, learn tools and get back to life. I am multi-culturally competent, caring, compassionate, and honest. I will recognize your efforts and gently call to attention areas for growth.
Trauma is defined as a "deeply distressing or disturbing experience". A few examples of trauma include negative childhood experiences, natural disasters or sexual assault. I describe trauma as a shock to the nervous system that causes symptoms such as intrusive memories, heightened anxiety, depression, or self-blame. With trauma counseling, I provide a safe environment where the goal is to reduce the symptoms of trauma.
